Red face Heros??? Diablo2 style henchmen?

From the press release issued today:

Quote:
In this third Guild Wars campaign, players must fight to hold back the night as a mad ruler attempts to free an outcast god and bring darkness to the continent of Elona. But players won't fight alone. Guild Wars Nightfall introduces new customizable Heroes who level up, follow player instructions in combat, and use skills and equipment of the player's choosing. These Heroes will follow the player through savage coasts, ancient monuments, and poisonous deserts during an epic story that spans twenty missions and hundreds of quests. And for the ultimate one-on-one challenge, competitive players can choose to enter the new Hero vs. Hero Battles, where they group with a custom team of Heroes and fight against other players from around the world and their customized groups of Heroes.
So I'm wondering does this mean we'll be able to have 1 (or more?) Diablo2 style henchmen that can be equipped up and have a persistent nature with your characters?

Also... (asks the ranger in me) will Pets benefit from this "follow player instructions"?

Hmm...guess we'll have to see bobrath. Let's hope a PvE event beforehand can shed some light on the situation.

Seeing as DII was a Blizzard game, I get the feeling A.Net will try not to do it in a Blizzard-esque fashion.

Of course, I think a defensive build would have a huge advantage, because all the Heroes are going to target the player...Hmm. I'll wait and see how this feature plays out.

as word on the street has it: the "player choices shaping game" thing is most likely that depending on your choices you get different hench to customize/use

this is a good way to help maximize replay value- maybe ill need MORE than 1 character slot per profession- i could always make a second tank... one thta uses an axe or a spear...

I personally think that the custom hench design is going to be EXACTLY like diablo II or something very close to it, since anet branched off from blizzard.

If the custom henchie thing pans out, it may be lvl 1 henchies lvling up with you through out the campaign. Sounds pretty cool. We can all expect to see new builds for hero groups. Such as Touch Hero Group or W/Mo Hero Group....something to that extent. Probably more balance builds.

I could see the hero thing becoming a problem. For instance, a person makes a hero group of a perfect group build. Can the Heros do an IWAY? My guess untimatly is no.

And on another note: There better be more features to this game besides custom heros. Factions introduced Titles, Alliances, AB, way more PvP content. I'm just praying that anets got more up their sleeves than I suspect.

ANET did NOT branch from Blizzard. Anet was made from scratch. There are only 3 people from Blizzard and they are all producers.

Whatever, GW felt like Diablo III ever since it's initial release.

Let's be thankful the replay value is so much better.

Well first off the 1 hench you got in D2 really sucked. They need the best weapons and had to use skill that you couldn't really do shit with. next the people that left blizzard to become Anet, was like what they guys, or from what i herd it was the models of the game that did it. I don't know whos i right or who is wrong. As fair as guildwars felling like Diablo 3, lol no way has it felt like diablo 3, becuase Diablo 3 isn't out and most likey will never be out. Also of course their will be more title. As more factions/AB, i don't think so, Remember Factions was for PVp mostly and Nightfall is PvE, they might be more stuff added, but till then, we will have to wait and see. Also if i make anyone made, i am not trying to do that, just pointing out what i've seen, herd and done.

I look in my crystal ball and see:

PvEers telling PvPers to go play Factions, instead of the usual PvPers telling PvEers to go play WoW.

/end bad joke

I'm sure Anet will try and add something for everyone. They want to keep customers buying their products, not bore them to tears so they run off and get hooked on something else.

Please, please, please don't add in any sort of romance option with these "heroes"! It was cool in Planescape: Torment, stretched in Baldur's Gate II, and horribly gimmicky by Neverwinter Nights!

they are more than producers, they are the founders of Anet and very influential for their ideas.

Jeff Strain gets quoted in the press all the time

for clarity sake

ArenaNet was founded in 2000 by Mike O'Brien, Patrick Wyatt and Jeff Strain.

All three of them came from Blizzard Entertainment

Yes, but ArenaNET was made from scratch by those founders. They did not branch off. They are not under any wing of Blizzard Entertainment Group. They are NOT being paid by Blizzard. They are 3 people that had the dream of starting their own game studio.

They can "try" to use spinoff ideas of Blizzard's, but completely mimicking them can attract legal suits. Borrowing vs Stealing in the Media business is two different things. Borrowing ideas is ok, just as long as your plan is of a different design. But mimicking it will get the book thrown at you.

To completely link them as rift raft of Blizzard is an insult.

The Sims like customization would be cool...yet dangerous for ANET if you mod them as "Someone Famous" or copyrighted
